Personal Training Experience Session of the Month: Powerplates with Sam
Personal Training Experience Session of the Month: August
It’s time to shake up your workout!
Our Personal Training Experience Session for August is focused on The Powerplate!
Personal Trainer Sam has given an insight into how the Powerplate kit works and how it can accelerate your workout…
What is a Powerplate? It’s not something that you will find in the kitchen! It is a vibrating platform which causes involuntary muscle contractions throughout the body, that lead to tensing in parts of your body such as your stomach and core muscles, the same way as you might train on a wobble board.
How do you use a Powerplate? Hop on, set the time and level of vibration – as a beginner it is best to opt for the lowest settings of 30oz, 30 seconds, Amplitude: low – then do the exercises as you would on the gym floor: squats, press ups, crunches. For some ideas on how to exercise using just your bodyweight, Powerplate has come up with some easy to follow examples.
Exercising with the Powerplate certainly isn’t a walk in the park! It’s a tough work out. A half an hour session is said to be the equivalent of 90 minutes of weight lifting.
Including the Powerplate in your Gymspace routein can be extremely beneficial. Alongside a healthy diet, the use of whole body vibration training can help to achieve a sustained long term weight loss pattern. When combining resistance and vibration training you can maximise your calorie expenditure. Vibrations from the Powerplate mean that your muscles work differently to when strength training in the traditional way, therefore your training time can be cut whilst achieving similar benefits. The training works by transferring vibrations to muscles, activating more muscle fibres, increasing circulation and bone density.
“Good, good, good! Good Vibrations…”
You can even use the Powerplates for relaxing purposes. Use of the massage settings can effectively relieve sore muscles in the quads, calves and back. The massage function can also help with improving your flexibility. The Powerplates are perfect for stretching off after a run or loosening muscles after a workout.
Our Personal Trainer Sam is interested in core strength & stability, and finds that including a session on the Powerplate can boost your results. If you train with Sam you can expect a fun, relaxed and approachable personality (pre-workout!), but when it’s time to knuckle down he will push you to get the results you’re looking for. He believes that investing in yourself is the best investment of all. Sam regularly sets himself personal challenges, with both short and long term goals.
