Everyday Champion November 2016 - Nick Hill
November Everyday Champion
Name: Nick Hill
Nominated for: Outstanding achievement whilst working through severe health issues
Nick Hill has been nominated as an Everyday Champion after being left paralysed in January with Guillian-Barré syndrome. He has been working with Dr Kate Couchman a Personal Trainer at Sportspace since May. At first Nick struggled to walk and had limited functioning in his hands. Using pure guts and determination, it would take Nick 45 minutes to walk to the sports centre, he would then workout, and walk 45 minutes home again. Just four months later, this walk now takes him 20 minutes, he doesn’t need sticks any more, and he is able to drive to his new job!
About Nick’s program:
Nick was wobbly on his feet initially and could only manoeuvre himself onto certain pieces of equipment. Kate wanted to strengthen his core (getting onto the floor was at first impossible) but his perseverance made everything possible. Nick still has quite severe oedema and so his rehabilitation continues. Kate has now included the power plate into his program which helps to assist Nicks rehabilitation and management of pain. Kate is very proud of Nick and what he has achieved.
Congratulations Nick you are a true inspiration to us all and we wish you the very best!
